Second Grade take out Final at Lynn Oval

Stockton & Northern Districts have taken out the Second Grade E. Tiplady Shield in a dominant performance at Lynn Oval to cap off a hugely successful season for both the club and the Second Grade team. Merewether captain Chad Mayo won the toss on a typically flat Lynn Oval pitch and had no hesitation in electing to bat.

The day started with a hostile first over from Tyson Beatty and a disciplined bowling approach from the entire Stockton & Northern Districts entire during the first hour saw Merewether lose three wickets in the first hour. A fine lone hand opening innings of 42 from Merewether skipper Chad Mayo was the only shining light for Merewether as they were bundled out for 91 just before the tea break. Paul Kelly dismantled the Merewether batting line up and returned an outstanding 4 for 20 in a fine display of left arm wrist spin to be the pick of the seagulls bowlers.

The Stockton & Northern response started shakily with the early loss of James O'Keefe but Ben Whitty and James Beatty combinbed to blunt the Merewether attack and put on an unbeaten 60 run partnership to finish day one at 1 for 62.

Day two started steadily for the home team until the loss of Ben Whitty (34) triggered a colapse which saw Zanardi, Kelly, Beatty and McNeill all depart within 8 runs. The Expericed Jeff Young (44 and skipper Lincoln Melmeth then comibned to clintch th win and the guide the seagulls to 6 for 151 when Merewether decided enough was enough.

Paul Kelly was named Player of the Match for his fine bowling display
