Round 2 Recap

Round 2 saw Stockton & Northern Districts Cricket Club take on the always tough Charlestown District Cricket Club and once again it was a day of mixed fortunes for the seagulls

At Lynn Oval, First Grade recorded a first win of the season in a nail bitter. After losing the toss the seagulls toiled hard on a flat Lynn Oval wicket after a strong Charlestown start to restrict the magpies to 187 with Keith Moody setting the standard in the field at cover and Nick Foster being the pick of the bowlers taking 2 for 25 and putting the brakes on the Charlestown innings in the middle overs. In response, Stockton & Northern Districts started will and reached 51 before the loss of the first wicket. Keith Moody with 27 and Nick Foster with 30 were the best of the top order but wickets continued to fall regularly throughout to see the seagulls in a precarious position at 8 for 162 before a 9th wicket partnership of 26 between Lucas Sargent and Daniel Foster saw the winning runs scored with 5 balls to spare.

In Second Grade and Charlestown Oval the Patrick O’Rourke Cup was on the line. After winning the toss and electing to bat the seagulls battled to 127 with Kye Zanardi the top scorer with 27. With a modest total on the board early wickets were going to be the key but unfortunately wickets proved hard to come by and the magpies passed the score for the loss of 4 wickets.
