SG Moore Cup Under 16s

Stockton’s total overhauled by unbeaten Belmont opening stand

Stockton & Northern Districts’ SG Moore Cup side was defeated by 10 wickets after Belmont produced an unbroken opening partnership to chase Stockton’s total of 9-94.

Batting first, Stockton found it difficult to establish sustained partnerships across the 20 overs. Aaditya Gaur provided the strongest contribution with 26 from 26 balls, striking two boundaries, while Bailey Westing made 15 and Adam Ngan added 12. Tyson Green also reached double figures with 11, but regular wickets prevented Stockton from accelerating through the middle and closing stages of the innings.

Belmont’s attack shared the wickets, with Thomas Crane, Will Blandford, Jayden Church and Jack Tavares each claiming two. Lucas Holt collected the remaining wicket as Stockton closed at 9-94.

Belmont’s openers then took control of the run chase. James Dare struck an unbeaten 66 from 34 balls, including seven fours and three sixes, while William Young supported with 28 not out. The pair reached 0-98 in 10.1 overs to complete the chase without losing a wicket.

It was a challenging opening-round result for Stockton, with the side left to reflect on the importance of building longer batting partnerships and creating early pressure with the ball.

Denis Broad OAM Cup

Belmont secures six-wicket win despite Stockton’s competitive effort

Stockton & Northern Districts suffered a six-wicket defeat in the Denis Broad OAM Cup, with Belmont reaching 4-99 after Stockton had posted 98.

Tom Davies led Stockton’s batting effort with an unbeaten 40, providing stability throughout the innings. Fin Codman contributed 18, while Thor Harradine finished unbeaten on 16. Joe Thompson added 11, but Stockton was unable to generate enough momentum to push the total beyond the reach of Belmont.

With the ball, James Deasty delivered Stockton’s best performance, claiming 2-22 from three overs. Brodie Cox also picked up a wicket, while the Stockton fielders contributed two run-outs as the side attempted to keep the contest alive.

Belmont lost wickets throughout the chase but remained composed. Lachlan Brown made 17, Brodie Cox contributed 19 and several other batters provided valuable runs around them. Belmont eventually reached 4-99 to seal the match with six wickets in hand.

Although the result went against Stockton, Davies’ unbeaten innings and Deasty’s two-wicket spell were encouraging individual performances from the opening round.

Under 21s

Stockton falls 14 runs short in closely contested opener

Stockton & Northern Districts’ Under 21s began the season with a competitive performance but ultimately fell 14 runs short against Belmont.

Belmont batted first and compiled 9-116 from its 20 overs. Drew Sazby and Joe Thompson were the major contributors, each scoring 29, while Thor Harradine, Will Blandford and Henry Batchelor all added 13.

Harry Askew led Stockton’s bowling attack with an impressive 3-21 from four overs. Lucas Vincent and Mac Crowe collected one wicket apiece, while Tyler McInnes and Tyson York also broke through. Stockton’s work in the field helped restrict Belmont to a defendable total after several batters had made promising starts.

In reply, Nicholas Thomsen gave Stockton a strong platform with 34 from 40 balls, including a four and a six. Tyler McInnes added an attacking 28 from 29 deliveries, striking one four and two sixes.

However, Stockton lost wickets at important stages of the chase. Lucas Vincent made eight, Tremayne Small added eight and Charlie Matheson contributed seven, but no later batter was able to deliver the decisive innings required. Stockton was eventually dismissed for 102 in the final over.

Jacob Curry and Drew Sazby each claimed three wickets for Belmont, while Thomas Crane collected two. Their late-innings pressure proved decisive as Stockton’s chase came to an end 14 runs short.

Despite the defeat, Stockton remained in the contest deep into the innings. Askew’s three-wicket performance and the contributions from Thomsen and McInnes provided several positives for the side to carry into the next round.
