Mixed results in round 1

The 2020-21 Newcastle District Cricket Association season kicked of yesterday with mixed results for Stockton & Northern Districts Cricket Club in our first and second grade fixtures against Toronto Workers District Cricket Club. First Grade were defeated after bowling first and restricting Toronto to 186 with Lucas Sargent taking 3 for 22 in a fine bowling display. In response the seagulls lost early wickets but the lower order fought back to post 139 with Lucas Sargent capping off a fine all-round effort with 39 runs.

In Second Grade the seagulls bowled Toronto out for 141 with Brodie Cox taking 4 for 27. The seagulls then made light work of the chase with James Beatty scoring 80 as the winning runs were hit with 11 overs to spare.

The day had a tinge of sadness as the Stockton & Northern Districts Cricket Club said goodbye to former player Reg Stokes who passed earlier in the week. A minute silence was held at Lynn Oval and Ron Hill Oval
